“Christmas time is here” as the song goes and that means lots of days and nights spent curled up on the couch with popcorn, hot cocoa and a good Christmas movie that the whole family can enjoy. I don’t know about you but I have quite a few staple favorite Christmas movies that I must watch each year in addition to the Hallmark Christmas movies that play constantly when I am not watching one of these listed! At the end, you will find a free printable checklist for you and your family to check off as you watch the movies this Holiday season!

Let’s start with the classics first because you can never go wrong with these! I grew up on these movies and of course have passed down my love for them to my children. There is just something about those classic movies from the 40’s and 50’s that just get me in the holiday mood instantly. It’s A Wonderful Life is one that I always watch just right before Christmas Day as it really gives you that holiday joy and makes you remember that no matter what, family is the most important thing during that time of the year.

Now let’s movie onto those 90’s classics that my generation grew up watching! I love showing my kids that back in the day, we watched movies on VHS not streaming online and also that cell phones were the size of our arms. It’s funny seeing my oldest face get all confused and ask what those things are but, she also gets so intrigued by the outfit choices. These are the ones that I definitely watch more so with my kids regular during the holiday season while the classics is something I watch more by myself as even my husband isn’t in love with them. The only one we watch usually by ourselves is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation because although hilarious, I have two little parrots who will most certainly repeat the classic lines (you know what I’m talking about).

The last section that I’m gonna touch on are the more modern ones that are definitely another section that we watch as a family. ELF and The Grinch (both live action and the cartoon one) are two all time favorites in our home. We know all the lines and songs but, the real magic is watching the kids recite them as well. I love watching how excited they get to see Santa on screen or laugh at the funny moments. That’s my true Christmas magic right there.

Does your family have a Christmas movie tradition? If not, take a look at the printable below and grab some popcorn, hot cocoa, cozy blanket and snuggle all up on the couch and check out this movies. You won’t be disappointed but you also will get to create memories or even a new tradition that your little ones will look forward to every single year. Trust me, it’s something you’ll even look forward to doing because it forces us, as adults, to slow down and just soak up every single moment with our kids because the days may be long but the years are oh so short. Merry Christmas!

I love the idea of a checklist, thanks for the recommendations!
So many good movies. We watch Christmas movies all day on Christmas Eve while we bake cookies and eat appetizers. My favorite day of the year.
The checklist is great! Our family traditions are Christmas Vacation and randomly Dancing with Wolves and Monty Python.
I love this checklists, I actually watched them so many years ago and until now, I still like them.
Before I am watching them alone but now, I am going to watch them with my kids.
I love that you made a checklist! That makes my little INFJ heart happy. These are all great, thank you for doing the work for me!
We used to have this tradition growing up, but my hubby/kids/I do not have this tradition now because we’re usually hosting all the grandparents/aunts/uncles. This year, with COVID meaning it will probably just be the 4 of us, we may have to start our own tradition along these lines. Thanks for the list to get us started!
