I just love decorating and doing crafts for the holidays and the 4th of July is no exception! The Easter pennants were such a hit that I had to make some for the 4th. Plus, this time around I knew what not to do and what to do so that would last longer and also be a larger size for decorations. The small size was perfect for the baskets but this time, we needed some major sizing so that they would stand out during our Stars & Stripes party.
I am going to show ya’ll what you will need for this along with some in-process shots. I didn’t cut the pennant flags by hand like I did last time. Instead, I used my Cricut and the process was a whole lot simpler for me at least. It gave me that perfect edge that I was not able to achieve the first time around.
How To Make the 4th of July Pennants
Supplies
Cardstock
8-inch long 1/4 diameter Dowels
Red, Silver, Blue Curling Ribbon
- Tools
Hot Glue Gun or Super Glue
Scissors or Alternatively:
Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker
Light Grip Mat
Fine Point Blade
Directions
- Download the files and load the cardstock into your printer. If you plan to cut these out using scissors, simply print the design. If you are using your Cricut, upload the images to Cricut Design Space and follow the prompts to make a print-then-cut upload and send the print to the printer.
- Once printed, if using scissors, cut out the outer edge of each pennant. If using the Cricut, place the printed cardstock paper onto your light grip mat, then load it into the machine and tell the machine to make it.
- Once cut, fold the tab toward the back of the pennant.
- Glue the dowel onto the tab, sandwiching the dowel between the tab and the back of the pennant. Repeat with all other pennants. I highly recommend using hot glue here. I did Krazy Glue last time and it just didn’t hold as well as hot glue.
- Tie 12-14 inches of all three colored curling ribbons to the bottom of each pennant and curl using the scissors.

How cute are they? Last time I used festive ribbon but I thought the curling ribbon this time would just add the perfect touch and also bring out the colors on the flags. This time they turned out exactly how I wanted them to and I am seriously so excited for y’all to be able to use them for your own parties and decor this 4th of July!
