How we have been using The Good and The Beautiful At Home

Giovanni is turning 4 in April and that means that Kindergarten is right around the corner. I am totally not ready for that at all and would much rather him stay a baby forever but sadly, the world does not work like that. I decided to do some research on how I could get him ready for school and stumbled upon The Good and The Beautiful.

The Good and The Beautiful is a great homeschool learning curriculum that you can start at the early age of 4!

I had heard such amazing things from friends who are homeschooling their children about this curriculum and thought that it would be the perfect one for us. Giovanni has only ever been home with me and while I do my best to do sensory activities and activities that you have seen on here where we talk about the letters, their sounds, etc. He does need more and that’s where this curriculum came into play.

Lets start with what’s included when your course arrives

It took very little for our Pre-K course to arrive and inside it was everything we needed to get started! I was actually shocked by it because I expected this huge package but it ended up being just enough. You don’t want to over stimulate them and The Good and The Beautiful does an amazing job at making sure that it doesn’t happen. Plus, it’s simple for us mamas too who may be nervous about starting this new journey with our littles.

Briefly, I’m going to touch on what is included in the Pre-K course and what each book is meant to do within the course.

Course Book

This really speaks for itself. This is where you will find all your lessons for the day and it also gives you a list of things that you will need for the lesson as well. I found that insanely helpful because I can get our lesson for the day all set up with supplies and any activity that we may have to do to reinforce the lesson all while Giovanni played before learning. This busy mom needs that kind of point-blank instructions which you can also find at the beginning of the course book as well. Each lesson will take you no more than 30 minutes as this is such a great intro to letters, numbers, sounds, colors and even fine motor skills.

Activity Packet

In here you will find all your different games that will help reinforce the lesson that you learned. You can play these once, twice, a million times if you like! That is the beauty of The Good and The Beautiful! You go at your own pace and can honestly do it a million times if your child wants to or if you feel like they just need that review before the next lesson.

Letter Flip Through Books

You get a set of 3 books that has both the uppercase and lowercase of the letter along with a picture that correlates. You cut them into strips and it helps your child identify the uppercase, lowercase, sound and also what picture goes with the letter. For example, A a and then Alligator. Giovanni especially loves this because it’s almost like a puzzle that we have to put together.

Doodles and handwriting

This book helps littles with pencil grip and helps them practice their handwriting. This course is designed to be simple enough for littles to do it it alone but also can be an extension of their course book that they do everyday. The sky is always the limit when it comes to The Good and The Beautiful and their courses.

The Good and The Beautiful has curriculum that goes all the way up to High School if you chose to go the homeschooling route. This also can be helpful if your child is struggling in school and you want to help with reinforcements at home.

The Good and The Beautiful also offers something that I have never seen before and that is that they offer some free courses to where you can try their program and see if it is a good fit for not only your child but you as well. They offer Language Arts for free for Pre K-8. They also offer a free PDF download for their Marine Biology Unit as well as their reading book list. All great sources for you and your child!

Affordability is number one in this program

Most people think homeschooling and correlate it with expensive but actually The Good and The Beautiful is very affordable! When going to purchase a course for your child’s level, you have the option to get either the physical workbook which will then be mailed to you in a timely fashion or you can download the PDF version where it is sent to your email immediately after purchasing and you can then print it out to give to your child each day. Please be sure to make sure when purchasing the download version that you are purchasing your childs correct level as the download is non-refundable. But did it work for us?

Absolutely! We are still in the beginning of the course book but it has totally helped Giovanni with learning his letters, the sound they make, what objects may start with said letter and so on. He was already counting to 20 before we started The Good and The Beautiful however, there was definitely room for improvement and this course book has helped with that as well. As I said before, this is such a great introduction to these things for littles and can really help guide them on the path to Kindergarten.

I also highly recommend joining some Facebook groups that are for The Good and The Beautiful. These are not in any way affiliated with their company but have been started by moms like us who just want the best for their kiddos! I joined one that was specifically for the Pre-K course and having the support of that community has also helped a ton on our journey!

I could not be happier with this program and how Giovanni is progressing within it. He loves playing the games and we tend to play them even when we aren’t doing “lesson time” which helps him retain the information without him even knowing it!
