Christmas time is definitely the time when families come together more often than usual. If your family is anything like mine, you see each other often but there is just nothing like the holiday season to really bring you together. There are so many things that you can do together as a family from holiday parties to baking cookies together. Holidays are all about the family memories you can create and that’s exactly what these lists will do! Create memories for you and your kids that will last a lifetime!
Some of my favorite past times as a child is on this list like building a snowman, going sledding, hanging up Christmas lights. These are all things that used to be a family tradition when I was little and now I get to pass them down to my kids. Minus the snow part because we live in Florida and my beach babies have never seen real snow! We are hoping to change that one day for them because every child deserves the memory of having fun in the snow and building good ‘ol Frosty the Snowman!
Tradition plays a huge part in these bucket lists and this holiday one doesn’t stray from that! Something so simple as driving around listening to Christmas music while looking at all the houses lit up with lights can hold such a special place in a childs heart. Adylee is our oldest and at 8, she already has started asking when we go do this because it’s one of her favorite things. We grab some hot cocoa from home, even though it’s still a lovely 80 in Florida during December, and go drive around looking at all the lights. There’s one subdivision we visit regularly because EVERY single house has lights up and they are just so extravagant that the kids never want us to drive away from them. Plus, our own home tends to be covered in lights because Christmas has always been the biggest holiday in my family.
Baking cookies is also another one that just holds so many memories and can really bring a family together. Throw on some Christmas music, put on the oven, grab those sugar cookies and look up a recipe for DIY icing and you are ready to go! HINT: look out for a blog post coming soon with a yummy recipe for both. Last year, we got to do this as a family and I can’t even tell you how much my momma heart exploded. Now that the kids are older, I can’t wait to do it again because every single year that they get older, it’s like experiencing the holidays for the first time all over again!
So decorate the tree, put on Christmas music, lets the kids help you hang up some lights and just enjoy the company of your family because as I said before, the days are long but the years are short. Before you know it, your kids will have kids of their own and taking the traditions that you have made with them to their family. I can assure you that this happens because my momma started the tradition of gifting us new pajamas for Santa on Christmas Eve night and now, I do that with my littles.
